Win a Bel990i Radar Detector, worth £400!

Good golly yes! Those wonderful chaps at Radar Express, have donated a spanking new, state-of-the-art Bel990i radar detector as a competition prize for me. I just have to give it away. For a review of the Bel990i, pop over to the Testing Ground.

Sponsored by:

First, I need to give a quick plug to Radar Express, because they're the ones who have put up the prize for my competition. They are probably the biggest and most competent distributor in the UK for Bel radar detector products. They can be contacted by email at radar.express@dial.pipex.com, or you can contact them direct on 01555-665666.
They have supplied me with the unit already, as you can see in the photograph below, so it's secure, and awaiting delivery to the competition winner. At the Speedtrap Bible, I believe in customer service. If I say there's a detector up for grabs, then it's here and waiting. Oh and before the cynics amongst you ask, no, I won't be using the prize for myself in the meantime. It's locked away until the closing date. You'll get it pristine, first-hand, and as fresh as the morning breeze. Well, I can't actually vouch for it smelling that good, but you know what I mean.......

Alternatively of course, if you can't wait for the competition prize, I've secured a special deal with Radar Express. Tell them I sent you, and you'll get £50 off the cost of a Bel990i new. Yup - £349 instead of £399.

How to enter

Well, it's simple. If you've not already checked it out, take a look at the Obscured Camera page. It's a rogue's gallery of cameras all over the country that have been well-hidden, obscured, disguised, camouflaged or otherwise made inconspicuous to road users. Yes, they're guaranteed revenue-earners. To enter to win the Bel990i all you have to do is send me a photograph of either:
  • the most obscured camera that you can find.
  • a funny photograph related to GATSO speed cameras.

The Rules

Heavens yes, there are rules. Read them first, then get snapping.
  1. The competition is open only to residents of the United Kingdom (England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, before you ask).
  2. Entries are not limited to one per person - you may enter as many times as you like.
  3. Pictures currently showing on the Obscured Camera page are exempt from the competition.
  4. Pictures of obscured cameras submitted for the competition must be labelled as such, or they will simply be added to the Obscured Camera page.
  5. Pictures of obscured cameras must be taken as close as is sensibly possible to the driver's viewpoint. Picture of cameras which are very visible to a driver, but have been photographed from an angle suggesting they are hidden, will not be accepted.
  6. Funny pictures related to GATSO cameras must not involve criminal damage or vandalism to the cameras or camera boxes.
  7. Pictures can be sent in one of three formats:
    • Digital, sent directly to me at clonghur@es.com
    • Wet-film, printed and sent to me in snailmail. Email me for the address to send them to.
    • Wet-film, scanned in and emailed to me at clonghur@es.com.
  8. All entries must be accompanied by a contact name and either snailmail address or email address.
  9. "The editor's decision is final." I'm the editor, so whichever camera photograph I deem to be the funniest or more obscured, that's the winner. Ah ah ah! Don't argue! You'll be sent to bed with no dinner if you do....
  10. No correspondance will be entered into over the winning entry.
  11. The winning entry will be displayed on my site for future reference. You, as the picture-taker will retain copyright to the photograph, but The Speedtrap Bible shall be allowed to use the image without restriction.

Starting Date

The competition was opened on Monday 22nd May 2000.

Closing Date

The closing date for the competition will be Thursday 31st August 2000. The winner will be announced on these pages after that date, and will be contacted directly for details on where I am to send their Bel990i.
